Capital Campaign

After many years of hard work, DC Alpha reached a new high water mark, when we received “Gold Standing” from the University in 2009—the highest ranking afforded to Greek organizations. It was this honor that paved the way for GW Housing programs to award DC Alpha a lease for a six person townhouse located at 2206 F street, which this the first official house the chapter has had in over five years. Phi Kappa Psi graciously accepted the offer and is excited to once again have common space that the ninety-five active brothers, hundreds of alumni, and Phi Psis from across the world can call home in Washington, DC. The house will serve as a host to alumni events, mixers with sororities, philanthropic programming, study space, meetings, and, most importantly, will enhance our brotherhood.

  • 6 bedrooms
  • 4 bathrooms
  • Full kitchen with 2 refrigerators
  • Full basement
  • Living room
  • Backyard
  • Ritual closets

While this type of space is a major upgrade for the chapter, the house is in need of some renovation and furniture. Many of the other large fraternities on campus have houses with top-notch furniture and amenities that have an invaluable effect on recruitment and brotherhood events. 2206 F Street is in need of couches, paint, televisions, office furniture, armoires, bookcases, a safe, desks and study carrels, a grill, and a sound system. If you are an alumnus and have any memorabilia or property of the chapter that you held for safe keeping (composites, awards, etc.), the chapter would like to proudly display our history and items for all to see. To show our appreciation, we will commemorate your donation by engraving your name on a plaque, to be displayed in the chapter room.

A major part of this campaign is aimed at reintegrating alumni into the chapter. Washington, DC is a transient city.  Most alumni come back to visit friends or family, to see the sights, or on business. If you are in town, please get in touch with us, and stop by.  We want to have a chapter where alumni are there to support and guide. We want to hear stories of DC Alpha from long ago. Alumni support is crucial to our continued existence as a chapter, and our door is always open for Phi Psis from any chapter. DC Alpha will be hosting an unveiling event in early Fall for all alumni who wish to come.

The District of Columbia Alpha Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi has a distinct history at the George Washington University and has been on campus as early as 1868. We carry on the legacy of chapter alumni including the first graduate of GWU to be University President, Howard Hodgkins and the founder of the U.S. Air Force, Billy Mitchell. It is their accomplishments that drive our efforts. One of the major setbacks the chapter has encountered during the modern era at GWU starting as a colony, has been housing. The Foggy Bottom area of Washington DC does not allow for many affordable housing options, especially for fraternities. DC Alpha finally has the house that will allow the chapter to flourish and accomplish even more. Finally, we have a place where members can socialize, meet alumni, organize events, and strengthen brotherhood. Imagine the accomplishments and successes that will follow.
