Philanthropy
I believe I am honor bound. . . to give aid and sympathy to all those who are less fortunate.
Phi Kappa Psi encourages all its Brothers to express the true measure of their abilities and personalities through the great joy of serving others.
Phi Kappa Psi was established upon the principle of learning to “appreciate the great joy of serving others.” Phi Psi is very active in community service and philanthropic fundraising throughout the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia, and Maryland. Phi Kappa Psi’s motto, “The Great Joy of Serving Others” is especially true in the DC Alpha Chapter. Below is a list and description of Philanthropy events we hosted or participated in during the 2009/2010 academic year.

Phi Psi 500
Our chapter’s main philanthropy event – the Phi Psi 500 – donated 500 community service hours to underprivileged children in Washington, DC. Every active brother and new member of our chapter, along with dozens of fraternity men and sorority women from GW spent a full day playing games, sports, and barbequing. Overall, the event was a huge success. Ten of our brothers return to the Boys & Girls club weekly after building relationships with some of the kids at the Phi Psi 500.
Phi Kappa Psi has designated April 18th a national day of service, and the DC Alpha chapter has enthusiastically participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life held at GW’s Smith Center. In 2009, our team, led by David Miranda ’09 raised over $10,000 and was the number one fundraising team.
We have participated in about a dozen philanthropy events during the current academic year, which have helped both national and local charities. Our brotherhood has donated books, money, community service, food, and many other items to help those in need.
