Why Rush?
Greeks run America: CEOs of 43 Fortune 50 companies, 75 percent of Supreme Court Justices and Members of Congress, and two-thirds of Presidential Cabinet members.
Almost twenty-five percent of GW is Greek, yet they comprise the leaders of the SA, College Republicans, College Democrats, Class Council, Colonial Cabinet, International Affairs Society, and more.
What is Rush?
Rush is fraternity recruitment. It is held near the beginning of both fall and spring semester. Rush is organized by the GW Interfraternity Council (IFC) and lasts two weeks in the fall and one week in the spring.
How does it work?
As a rush, you are invited to visit every one of GW’s 14 fraternities over the first week and a half. You can get free food, meet the brothers, and have some fun! As rush progresses, both you and each fraternity narrow down your choices. The last Thursday and Friday are invitation only nights. You may attend only if invited back. The Saturday after the last Friday of rush, you will be notified if you have received a bid (an invitation to join the fraternity). You can then accept or decline the bid.
Rush is casual. We encourage all men to come out and experience rush. Many of the brothers will tell you that they never thought they would join a fraternity. They came out to rush, met some great people, and decided it was something they wanted to do.
Qualifications
Membership qualifications for Phi Kappa Psi at GW include good academic standing in the university; talent, ambition, and good moral character; plus sociability, compatibility with the current membership, and a desire to be a lifelong active participant in such a fraternal organization.
Why Phi Psi?
Phi Kappa Psi is the best fraternity at George Washington University. This is something we truly believe because of our values, our presence on campus, and our brotherhood. Our diversity in academic studies, extracurricular activities, and cultural backgrounds helps make our brotherhood the best GW has to offer. Our members look to make a difference within both GW and the community.
In the past years, brothers have had many leadership positions on campus such as: SA President & Executive Vice President currently 5 brothers serve as Senators; Interfraternity Council President, Executive Vice President, and Vice President of Recruitment; President & Vice President of political groups such as the College Democrats & College Republicans; Program Board Chairman and Concerts Chair; and many other student organizations on campus including Men’s Club Basketball, Colonial Cabinet (3 brothers worked with Colonial Cabinet this past summer), Colonial Inaugurations Staffers, Colonial Visitor Information Program, GW Young America’s Foundation, Residential Hall Association, GW Students for Sustainability, and Hippo Grill Masters.
Phi Psi prepares its brothers to take hold of amazing opportunities. We are able to offer our members great internship or full time positions through our large network of brothers and successful alumni. Brothers currently serve as interns and full time employees for the White House, Senate, House of Representatives, Department of Justice, Treasury Department, and many leading Public Relations, marketing, political consulting, banking, and financial firms.
Phi Psi excels in athletics too. We take interfraternal sports seriously, and are always a strong contender for the Pikus Cup (the interfraternal sports overall championship). Football, basketball, soccer, hockey, volleyball, and tennis are just a few of the sports brothers are active in throughout the year. This past year we were the top fraternity in basketball, wiffleball, and bowling, and made the finals in all major sports.
Phi Psi also knows how to have fun. Our motto is “Work Hard, Play Hard.” We throw the best parties and social events on campus.
We also have one of the highest GPAs of all student organizations, and have achieved this consistently for the past 10 years.
Phi Psi excels within the Greek community as well. We have won the weeklong Greek Week competition among Greek organizations 4 out of the last 7 years. Our philanthropic efforts are well known. Each year we run two of our own philanthropy events, one of which being the Phi Psi for GI’s which culminates with a Greek-wide competition in U-Yard. This upcoming year we hope to continue to build on our Phi Psi for GIs philanthropy program which works with TAPS, a veterans’ organization, to provide services for those who participated in our most recent wars. We also participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life where we were the largest participating group and donor in 2009.
Phi Psi’s home at GW can be found at 607G on the prestigious Townhouse Row which is asymbol of pride for our chapter.
If you are looking for a fun, social, and balanced college experience, come check out Phi Kappa Psi!
